ZURICH (AP) -England has risen to an all-time high of third in the FIFA world rankings, overtaking Uruguay which drops to fourth position.
Roy Hodgson's team reached the quarterfinals at the recent European Championship, while winner and world champion Spain remains top of the rankings issued on Wednesday. Germany is second, with Portugal fifth and Euro 2012 runner-up Italy staying sixth.
Argentina is the only other South American side to make the top 10, in seventh, with Brazil slipping two places to 13th.
Ivory Coast is the only African nation in the top 20, at 16, while South Sudan, which became FIFA's 209th and newest member, drew its first international match 2-2 with Uganda to move into 199th place.
