Nathan Hale-Ray High School in Moodus has reversed itself and now is telling a student that she may wear a pink breast cancer bracelet in class.
Previously school officials had called the bracelet disruptive,? and threatened Sara Dickenson with possible detention.
Legal Director Sandy Staub with the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut says the pink bracelets are fairly common.? The bracelets say ?I ? boobies.? Keep abreast? and are designed to show support for breast cancer patients and breast cancer awareness.
The interim school superintentdent confirmed that students are allowed to wear the bracelet this year.? Dr. Mary Beth Iacobelli says last year students were ?acting really silly and making comments? about a variety of bracelets.? ?It had nothing to do with freedom of speech and everything to do with a learning environment conducive to learning.?
