The Outdoor Adventure Club ?is back at SFA starting this year. Under new leadership the club is hoping to get more members than the years before. The Outdoor Adventure Club?is a great place for students that love the outdoors and physical activity to get to know other students that have the same interest as they do. The adventure club consists?of indoor rock climbing?as well as outdoor climbing trips, biking, hiking and camping. Anyone that is interested can join.? I am going to try and make this year the best year the club has ever had,? said club president Thomas Simpson. This year the club also has a new sponsor, new head of the outdoor center Evan Coulson.

What you need to join
If you want to join you don?t have to have any prior experience. The other students in the club are very happy to teach new students everything they know. It only costs $35?to join and students must have health insurance, because some of the events can be dangerous. The club has practice every Saturday at 11 a.m.??at the rock walk in the recreation center. Later on in the semester students may want to buy their own climbing and camping equipment which the club will be happy to help them find the best deals, but students can also use the recreation center?s climbing gear as well as?rent gear from the outdoor adventure center. Students must also have some spare time in the future to commit to volunteer work and fund raising, to raise money for the club.

Sponsors
The club is currently sponsored by SFA and the head of outdoor adventure center, Evan Coulson. Coulson??is new to SFA this year, and plans to make some new and better changes to the club this year. Evan has just moved from Illinois and is no stranger to the outdoors, the club is excited to see what he will bring to the club this year.

Climbing Competitions
When you join the outdoor adventure club you are able to compete in school climbing competitions?as the SFA team. There are a total?of six??competitions in the spring semester that the club will be attending. The competitions are held at different colleges across Texas, which are open to all skill levels from beginner to advance. ?At the competition?you will be able to compete against other rock climbers and meet some new people from other schools. You will also get a chance to win free climbing gear at a raffle held after ever completion.

Rock climbing at SFA
Most of the time the club climbs at the rock wall in the recreation center, so just come up? to the wall and?talk to some of the other climbers to see if you want to join. Any SFA student can?climb at the rock wall, all students have to do is?take a 30 minute class on how to tie the knots and learn the safety rules. The people that work there are also available to help out whenever you need.

Outdoor Climbing
The outdoor adventure club is planning at least one trip to Reimers Ranch in Austin,Texas?this semester. Reimers is a great place to climb outdoors, with hundreds of different routes?for all different skill levels. Besides climbing,?Reimers also has a river that runs through it, so during the day students can take a break from climbing and go for a swim.??After a day of climbing the club will head to a nearby campground where they will stay the night, for a fun night with friends under the stars.
